Located 50 miles southwest of Chicago, Oswego is well situated at the southern end of the Fox River Valley in Kendall County, Illinois. Downtown Oswego is home to historic buildings and homes, as well as shops and restaurants. Located along the Fox River, the historic downtown includes shops, restaurants and the Oswego Public library. Each year, the Oswego Chamber of Commerce sponsors The Christmas Walk, which draws thousands of people from the Fox Valley to downtown.
Oswego was ranked #58 in 2011 on CNN Money’s Top 100 Best Towns to live in. CNN Money ranks these towns based on their job opportunities, schools, safety, economic strength and more. Although Oswego was unranked in 2012, Kendall County has continuously been ranked as one of the fastest growing counties and a place of rapid job growth by CNN Money.
The village of Oswego launched a project to enhance and restore the historic downtown district. This project included significant infrastructure and streets-cape improvements, such as the installation of brick paves, sidewalks, landscaping, and decorative streetlights and benches. Hudson Crossing Park, located along the Fox River, opened in October 2004 where many children and families enjoy the scenery. The Waubonsee Creek Promenade, which stretches from Main Street to Hudson Crossing Park, is the final phase of the downtown enhancements. In 2008, the village celebrated its 175th anniversary.
The community is striving to keep its small town character and it remains a great place to raise a family. Many new residents cite our quality schools as the reason they moved to Oswego. Community Unit District 308 has an excellent reputation in the Chicagoland area and has maintained its high standards, even as enrollment has increased.
The Oswegoland Park District offers residents an abundance of recreational programs. A new aquatic center, bike trails, and hundreds of acres of parks provide Oswego area residents with clean and safe recreation. Festivals, such as the annual Prairie Fest, provide seasonal entertainment for the whole family.
